Surgical Support Program
Behavioral health support designed to improve surgical readiness and recovery.
OVERVIEW
Preparing for surgery
Preparing for surgery is more than a physical process.
Behavioral health factors, such as mood, expectations, social support, and health behaviors, can significantly impact recovery and return to function.
The Ascellus Surgical Support Program identifies and addresses these factors before and after surgery to help optimize outcomes.
Designed to support better surgical outcomes without extending unnecessary care.

Why It Matters
Certain factors are known to negatively impact surgical recovery, including:
- Mood symptoms
- Poor health or lifestyle habits
- Limited social support
- Unrealistic expectations about surgery and recovery
When these factors are not addressed:
- Recovery timelines may be extended
- Outcomes may be less predictable
- Total claim costs may increase
Addressing these barriers early helps improve recovery progression and long-term outcomes.
How It Works
Assessment
The injured worker meets with an Ascellus provider to review medical history, current care plan, and recommended surgery. Structured evaluation helps identify risks, strengths, and needs.
Targeted Intervention
A personalized care plan is developed based on identified needs.
The injured worker participates in a focused series of sessions (typically 2–6), addressing factors that may impact surgical readiness and recovery, both before and after surgery.
